Behavior and Incentives
This year in the classroom, we will be targeting responsibility and citizenship through a classroom centered upon making positive choices. We are committed to fostering a safe and positive environment for our students. Using a common language works to enhance respect, thoughtfulness, and a sense of community.
As part of this effort, students are expected to display responsibility on a regular basis. They need to come to class with all necessary materials every day. Students are also expected to come to class with completed assignments and class worksheets that are still being used. Respect and kindness is the driving force behind establishing an environment for higher order thinking and learning.
At the beginning of the year our class will carve out our goals and visions for the year. These expectations will be monitored. In addition, information will also be recorded through Class Dojo. As a group we will determine incentives and goals our class will work to achieve.
Please note, we will be focusing on the positives, but if difficulties continue to arise, the following course of action will be implemented:
· Personal discussion with student, brainstorming alternatives
· Student reflects and discusses with teacher the situation, spending recess time writing a letter to parents (signature required)
· Email or call home from teacher
· Phone call home from teacher and a possible conference
Positive Incentives
As an educator, I believe strongly upon fostering intrinsic motivation. Putting forth your best effort and stretching yourself to seek internal self-worth, accomplishment, and growth is a powerful tool. However, there will be occasions when incentives are supplied when class/individual goals are achieved. Class Dojo and digital eagle bucks will help guide this process. If a class goal is reached we will decide on a group reward. These rewards may include: tech break, a movie, holding class outside, song/dance/performance by the teacher, free choice time.
